What is DigEthix?
DigEthix is the name of a public education and communication project aimed at enhancing the level of public discourse around issues involving technology and ethics. The project consists primarily of a podcast, a website, and a social media presence. The project is conducted under the Center for Mind and Culture (CMAC).
What is the Center for Mind and Culture?
The Center for Mind and Culture, Inc. (CMAC) is a non-profit organization in Boston, Massachusetts dedicated to non-partisan research. CMAC’s network of expert researchers tackles complex social problems such as social integration of immigrants and refugees, religious self-radicalization, spiraling suicide rates, illegal child trafficking, ethical risks of digital data and computer algorithms.
CMAC is unique in using interdisciplinary teams of experts. Teams employ computational models, data analytics, historical interpretation, philosophical analysis of concepts and other methods to generate practical answers to the host of challenges confronting us. CMAC researchers rely on extensive collaboration to implement this leading-edge research, training, and public education.
Goals for DigEthix
DigEthix has two primary goals. The first goal is to act as a platform for high level ethics content. While there are other podcasts that focus on technology, computer science, and social media trends, DigEthix is unique in its focus on cases. The podcast in particular aims to discuss these cases in-depth to outline how particular problems occurred and how they might be avoided in the future. These cases will be taken both from more publicized events, such as with Cambridge Analytica, and from other lesser known cases that the public can benefit from learning about.
